Singing Group

In 2006 Thruxton WI had an inspirational talk by Margaret Payne, a WI member and music teacher, about singing for fun. Many of Thruxton WI’s members recollected being told at school that they ‘couldn’t sing’, and had not sung in public since, and were at first reluctant to air their voices. However, the evening proved so enjoyable that it was decided to start a singing group which took its name from the talk – ‘Singing for Fun’.

Initially it was for WI members but it soon expanded and is now open to everyone who likes to sing, regardless of experience.  In 2007 the group took part in a national sponsored Sing-A–Long charity event, and raised over £500 for the Countess of Brecknock and Naomi House hospices.  Thruxton WI has now been successful in its application for an Awards for All grant towards the cost of a new Clavinova Digital Piano.

The group meets on alternate Thursday afternoons during term time in Thruxton War Memorial Hall, from 2-3pm, and sings a wide range of songs.

New members are always warmly welcomed. Further details are available by phoning 01264 771625.
