Line Dancing

Line DancersLine Dance Classes are held at Thruxton Village Hall on Tuesday evenings 7.15pm to 8.45pm at £3.50 per class.  Everyone is welcome at this friendly class, both ladies and gentlemen. Line dance classes have been held at Thruxton for 8 years, the last 6 yrs run by myself, Pam, with help from my husband Ron.  We try to cater for all dancers from beginners to intermediate.  Line Dancing is one of the most popular leisure activities in the UK, with classes everywhere and social dances most weekends.  These can be with live music and or discos.Line Dancers

At our classes we learn dances to various beats, including cha cha, Rumba, Waltz and standard 4x4 time.  We try to use mostly country music, but if a dance is popular and is written to pop music we will give it a go! Line Dancing is not the ‘yee haw, slap my thigh’ dance style as portrayed in the media.  Line DancersNo special clothes are needed, but comfortable shoes or boots, with smooth soles and with low heels, are best.  (Preferably not trainers as these can be sticky and can cause pulled knees.) We dance to 1, 2 or 4 walls, repeating the pattern to each wall in turn.

The dances are mostly 32 or 64 steps per pattern and most of these steps are as used in aerobics, ballroom and disco dancing.  Any beginner with some experience in any of these areas will find it easy to pick up line dancing and of course a partner is not required.  At the Tuesday class we start the evening with easy ‘warm up’ beginner dances, moving on to teaching newer dances and ending the evening with well known dances and requests. Line DancersThis autumn we again held a charity night, this year supporting Breast Cancer Research.  It was a ‘pink night’, held on 24th Oct and we raised £63.15 in an hour and a half of good fun. Thank you to everyone who came along.

During December we hold our Christmas Party, with an American Supper and lots of dancing.

Be warned... line dancing can be addictive!
