Church Wall Appeal
Churchyard Wall Restoration Appeal; October 2006
Dear Parishioner,
As Rector and Assistant Priest we are very grateful to the Churchyard Wall Working Party for all their work and hope that you will feel able to respond to the following appeal for the repair, out of respect for the departed and for the comfort of those who visit the graves of their families and friends. The Church and its churchyard is the heart of Thruxton village and it is important to all who live here, not only as a place of worship, but also as a focus of village life for christenings, weddings and funerals.
In the past 15 years much money and effort has been put into bringing the fabric of the Church up to a reasonable standard of repair. There is one remaining area, the churchyard walls, which are now in urgent need of repair. Sections of the old wall are in a critical state and another severe winter may cause further and catastrophic collapse. The total cost of repair is approximately £20,000. Over half of this has already been promised by a local charity and from private sources. From this it is clear that there is now sufficient funding to make a start and we believe that with your support and goodwill the remainder should be forthcoming. It is hoped that repairs will start this year before the onset of winter.
All the parishioners of Thruxton are entitled to burial in the churchyard and it may not be appreciated by everyone that no financial support is made from local government for this amenity, except for a much valued grant from the Parish Council to help with grass cutting
We are therefore appealing for support from all those who love the church and its surroundings and in particular those who have their own special reasons for coming to this sacred place.
Please use the attached form (printed) to enclose with your donation, help us increase the donation by completing the Gift Aid section.

Ian Tomlinson & Ann McKenzie
