3 Villages Sports Trust

The Three Villages Sports Trust

Thanks to an original idea by Trevor Barrett and the generosity of Henry Pelham, the Trust has been active since 2003.

The Three Villages Sports Trust is a registered Charity that exists to promote sport amongst the young people of Kimpton, Thruxton and Fyfield. Currently there are two football teams within the FA that play in the Sunday Morning Andover League. The team's home ground is on the Sports Field at the northern edge of Thruxton Village. Spectators and supporters are always welcome. Kimpton, Thruxton and Fyfield. football club (KTF) use the Trust’s ground as their home field and have built up a good reputation for a quality team over the past few seasons.

The trust has applied for planning permission for a pavilion and is currently urgently seeking funding for this. The building costs are going to be substantial but a brilliant start has been made by the previous Chairman, Steve Payne who cycled from Land's End to John O' Grouts and raised over £4,000 for this worthwhile cause.

At the last meeting of the Trust in December 2011, Steve Payne stood down as Chairman due to work commitments but agreed to stay on the committee and remain a Trustee. All praised Steve for doing so well whilst in office and overseeing a number of major projects including planning permission for the pavilion, new car park, playground and substantial hedge and grounds maintenance. At the meeting Bill Brewer was elected Chairman – a role he previously held when the Trust was set up – and a new committee was formed as follows:

Chairman and Trustee        Bill Brewer

Deputy Chairman                Steve Oliver

Trustee  & Secretary           Charles Milner-Williams

Trustee (Fundraising)        Steve Payne

Trustee (Finance)               Alan Olerhead

Trustee                                  Dean Willetts

New committee members are always welcome as are volunteers and if anyone is interested then please contact Bill Brewer on 77 2909.

The Trust has an ambitious vision to develop the field further for the benefit of all three villages. The building of a sports pavilion and meeting area is the greatest financial challenge but plans are afoot to try and get the funding – large though it might be – it goes without saying that if you wish to contribute please contact a committee member.

The trust is determined to assist in all types of sport – not just football, and we are keen to develop the grounds for netball, cricket and any other activity which benefits the people of the villages – especially the young people.

When finances allow the Trust would like to extend the children’s’ play area and perhaps to extend the car park to make the road safer for mother’s and children when ‘dropping off and ‘picking up’ time.

The Trust is also keen to further develop its relationship with Kimpton School so that the primary school children can benefit from the space which is literally on their door-step.

The Trust has been very successful to date but big challenges – mostly financial – lie ahead if we are going to achieve our ambition to provide a first class facility for all members of the community.

NEWS

Football pitch - The on-going repair to the first football pitch have been under discussion in a number of quarters and some villagers are concerned about the state of the pitch.

It is important to understand that the section of the pitch had to be dug up to remove large sections of concrete which had iron bolts embedded and two of which had become visible and potentially lethal to a footballer of member of the public falling onto them.

Top soil has been applied but another large load is required which will be applied in the spring along with levelling out and seeding.

The second – smaller pitch is a great playing surface and will continue to be used whilst the main pitch is out of action. More repairs to fencing is required – this will be undertaken in the early Spring.

Vandalism - The members of the trust have been particularly dissapointed recently with more mindless vandalism happening up at the field. The fences and goalposts have recently been attacked again. The Trust urges everybody to report any known vandals and their activities so that we can put it in the hands of the police. How can we possibly improve the facilities to the community if a small number of idiots constantly try to destroy our work - if you know who it is, simply tell us and we will deal with it - thanks.
